Project Spotlight: Artful Way Hotel & Apartments

 PROJECT SPOTLIGHT: ARTFUL WAY HOTEL & APARTMENT

Artful Way Hotel & Apartments, located in Asheville’s River Arts District, is a 63,000 SF mixed-use development combining boutique hotel units, residential studios, and retail space above structured parking. Designed by Laura Hudson Architecture and built in collaboration with Beverly Grant, the general contractor, the project balances contemporary design with functionality. Together, the architect and builder coordinated the building's overall layout, form, materials, and high-performance systems to maximize daylight, views, and circulation while referencing the neighborhood's industrial character through corrugated metal siding, bold color accents, and carefully selected wall panels. 

The building's exterior prominently features MBCI wall systems, including 1" galvanized hat channels and PBD wall panels in three variations of white, with coordinating white trim. These high-performance panels reinforce the industrial aesthetic of the River Arts District while providing durability, weather resistance, and simplified installation. Integrated seamlessly with the building's openings, the MBCI panels enhance daylight, ventilation, and occupant comfort while creating a visually cohesive, modern facade that complements the project's contemporary design.

High-performance windows and doors were installed throughout the building, playing a key role in both aesthetics and function. These systems provide slim profiles, clean sightlines, and generous glazing, bringing in natural daylight, expanding views, and creating strong visual connections to the surrounding arts district. The hardware used throughout complements the architectural design while providing smooth, reliable operation.

A large circular window at the hotel lobby serves as a distinctive architectural feature. Crafted as a custom hybrid of uPVC and fiberglass, this window combines thermal insulation, weather resistance, and structural strength, ensuring durability and reliable performance in a highly visible location.
